FCC's Net Neutrality Announcement & Freifunk at GSOC 2015
A couple exicitng things happened over the past few days!
First, FCC Chairman Wheeler confirmed that the agency plans to reclassify broadband as a telecommunications service under Title II of the Communications Act and implement bright line rules that apply to both wired and wireless networks. (We're fans of this happening.) You can also read the statement from the New America Foundation here. Interesting comment from Russell Senior of Personal Telco, however, about how this doesn't quite go far enough for the last mile.
Second, the happy Leute over at Freifunk are getting ready for the 2015 Google Summer of Code. Freifunk is a distributed community of mesh network operators and enthusiasts in Germany, with WasabiNet even using some of their firmware components. Additionally, Freifunk helped host the 2013 International Summit on Community Wireless Networks (IS4CWN) in Berlin, where Ben West presented!
